How long have you been in business?
The firm was started as Sinkin & Barretto, PLLC in 1988. In 2007 the name changed to Law Offices of Sinkin & Marvel. We have been handling child support enforcement since 1997 and have always represented plaintiffs in personal injury matters.
What is your primary product or service?
Legal services.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Steven Sinkin sued the Texas Attorney General in 1997 when he found out it did not assess or collect mandatory interest on past due child support. Karen Marvel joined him in 1997. As a result of the lawsuit, the Attorney General changed its policy and now collects interest. It brought us into the child support enforcement practice area.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We focus on representing parents of grown children who did not receive their court ordered child support when the children were young. Our clients often worked two jobs and did without to support their children and they are entitled to receive the money that was ordered by the court. We have won cases at the Texas Supreme Court and many of the state's Court of Appeals on child support issues. Karen is board certified in Family Law and is a recognized Texas Super Lawyer.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Our office is in San Antonio but we practice in every county in Texas. If necessary, we bring in local counsel in the county to assist us. We have a reputation for excellence and tenacity.
What type of payments do you accept?
In most child support enforcement cases there is no upfront fee and no fee unless we collect for you. Each case is different and fees are explained before you hire us. Some child support enforcement cases will require a retainer. In personal injury cases there is no fee unless we collect for you.
